Hallelujah, we finally have a field! A field of dreams! But good and bad dreams, unfortunately. So the field has been placed into the game, and looks awesome. Wondeful! But now what? By using the Builder to place the field and to place Bob, unfortunately, Bob no longer walks. He just stands there and stares at the camera as if dazed. Maybe he’s scared, I’m not sure. But the point is that we’ve taken both a step forward and a step back. The Builder is amazing in that you can import anything of your choosing, and import it happily. You can size it and move it and rotate it…very nice! But beyond that, I’m stuck. I’m having trouble figuring out how to attach manually written code to these objects. It’s as if the Builder’s saying, “See how nice it looks? Isn’t this what you wanted? Ha! Now you’re on your own.” And it doesn’t bother to help you understand how to actually code these objects.
So the next obstacle is figuring out how to code these objects once they’ve been placed into the game. Of course, one brilliant idea I just had was to place the field into the game via the Builder, but not place Bob via the Builder. Hmm…Bob the Builder…who knew? Anyway, if I could get the field positioned beneath the Bob that I manually wrote, perhaps using this dumb Builder to place Bob wouldn’t be necessary. Ah-ha!
Well, it’s an idea, and I’ll go test it out. But hopefully all will come together soon, one way or another. At least we’ve gotten the field into the game…that’s a dream come true. Converting that stupid thing was a nightmare. Eric was able to help us out in the end, and now all is well where that’s concerned.
